Valgesoo bog (Põlva County)
Valgesoo bog is located in Põlva County, within the Valgesoo Nature Reserve, and is known for its rich biodiversity and varied landscape. The hiking trail is well marked and suitable for nature lovers of all ages, offering a peaceful walk through forest, bog woodland, and open bog fields. Along the trail, you’ll find several interesting plants, including the insect-eating sundew and cotton grass, which decorates the bog with its soft white tufts.
In the heart of the bog lies a small boardwalk platform and a viewing tower that provides a panoramic view over the bog pools and the stunted pines growing between them. In spring and autumn, many bird species can be seen and heard here, such as the common snipe and the crane. Valgesoo bog is accessible year-round and is especially beautiful during early-morning mist and when the bog pools are mirror-calm. It is a wonderful place for tranquillity, birdwatching, and nature photography.

- Valgesoo bog formed after the last Ice Age around 10,000 years ago and is part of the Valgesoo Nature Reserve.
- A viewing platform with a tower sits in the central part of the bog, offering a panoramic view of the entire landscape.
- Valgesoo is an important habitat for several endangered bird species, including the black stork and the osprey.
