Meenikunno bog (Põlva County)
Meenikunno bog is the largest and one of the most impressive bog landscapes in Estonia, located in Põlva County. This vast wetland is covered with thick peat layers that have formed over centuries and provide a habitat for many rare plants and animals. The bog is known for its depth — in some areas the peat layer can exceed seven metres.
A wooden boardwalk allows visitors to walk through the heart of untouched nature, enjoying the stillness and fresh air that the bog offers. Meenikunno bog is also an important scientific research area where environmental changes and the effects of climate change are closely monitored. The bog is home to the moor frog, a protected species in Estonia, and hosts the rare royal fern, which thrives in its unique conditions.
